So I’m making a wedding cake in a few days for one of my friends. It’s a little unreal that I’m actually making a wedding cake.
Wedding cake. That’s a HUGE deal! Anyway, I decided to make a cake today so that I could practice a little. It’s been a while since I’ve made a cake, so I wanted to get in a little practice and make sure I could still ice a cake. I also wanted to get some ideas for Renee's cake. I took some pictures as I went. It’s not the prettiest cake, but it served its purpose. Here’s a few of the pictures…
[All the ingredients!...well most of them anyway.]
[The result..it did some weird thing with the top. I think it was the off brand cake mix. Luckily it will be turned upside down]
[The iced cake]
[So Renee wants butterflies on her cake. There's many different ways that I could do this, and I thought that the easiest was to use Royal Icing and outline them. Royal Icing is simply powdered sugar and water. It dries really hard, like candy. I tried to outline some butterfly wings, but I made it too thin and it was just drippy and turned into blobs. I wanted to see what it would do to the cake, so that's the purpose of the zigzag on the cake. Looks a little silly, to me. But I learned from it. I'm not sure if I'll use Royal Icing for the real wedding cake; I'll have to think on it.]Stay tuned for the result of my crazy idea that I'm making a wedding cake!
