Book Two: Velvet Elvis

I finally did it. Yesterday, by the lake, I finished Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell. Rob Bell is a pastor of Mars Hill church in California and does the Nooma videos, which are great! I have tried to read this book a few different times, and each time get stopped after the first few pages. [I have a problem with reading books] But this time I took it a chapter a night, and once I was past the preface was torn when I had to put it down. I loved it. I can't get the stuff in it out of my head. I keep thinking about it, and chewing on it, and processing it. I want to read it again and again, but maybe not just now. :)
This book was amazing! It made me think in so many ways. I really can't do this book justice by describing it or attempting to describe it. It opened my eyes to deeper meanings behind Scripture, as well as a better look at what it means to follow Christ, and what He calls us to. I highly recommend this book, and think that everyone should read it! But like all books it has to be read and then thought about and measured up against what you believe. Rob Bell has some different ideas, and it's ok not to agree with everything he says. It has to be measured up to what Scripture tells us, and in most areas he's right on! I just know that Rob Bell has been in the "Christian media" lately and I'm not sure what all he believes or if everything he says holds up, but Velvet Elvis was a wonderful book. Again, everyone should read it! :)
